These days a quick 2 hour scribble at midnight turns out a heck of a lot better than something I'd spend 7 odd hours on a year or two ago. ( [link] )
I'd encourage anyone who draws regularly to redraw things they did a year or more ago, it's a real eye-opener and confidence booster, really makes you realise how much better you're getting, but also gives you specific details; how i've improved here is in shading and realism, anatomy a little too i suppose, colour perhaps, but what I haven't been able to do is draw the pose better, the hand still looks silly, and i still didn't draw the metal rope things properly, they look too flat.
But I'm still not disappointed. Out of all the things I've drawn, the things I keep hanging on my wall are the bad things, the things i was once so proud of. They only get blu-tacked on the wall once I hate them, once I'm ashamed I was ever so bad. Because it makes me realise how easy it is to surpass myself, and that is pretty much all that keeps me trying nowadays.
